Hi…I’d love to have you come in and chat, but my house is messy, so never mind.

Speaking from the heart... This morning I learned that one way you live out your faith is through hospitality. The original Greek word in the Bible for hospitality comes from two root words meaning love and strangers. Reading Acts 2:42-47, it is clear that the first century church got together...daily. In fellowship with God, and in fellowship with one another. Fellowship. Showing strangers love, giving of your self. I love to entertain...when I have the time...when the house is Continue Reading …

Sunday Cards and Gratitude

I live pretty far north, so it's already sooo dark in the mornings here. Sunrise isn't until after 8am. (I'm ready for the time change.) My boys, 3 and 5, get up around 6:30am, and they are active as soon as they open their eyes! This morning, as the giggling was getting out of hand (they were hiding under the couch cushions), I was lying in bed thinking, "I wish they would just sleep in a little bit longer, or at least be quiet when they arise...or not feel the need to start wrestle each Continue Reading …

Sunday Solitude ~ Seasick

Last week, my family and our visiting family took a cruise of Pictured Rocks Lakeshore—something we have done many times on our own, when the lake is calm, in my dad’s small fishing boat. This time we were on the tour boat, and the swells were 3-4 feet. I wasn’t worried one bit, even though I tend to get motion sickness. We had just hiked to Mosquito Beach earlier in the day. It is part of the lakeshore that the tour boat goes by. You can see by the photo I took, the water wasn’t all that rough. Continue Reading …

Seek and See

"For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made."  Romans 1:20 MSG"Jesus took his stand. He cried out, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Rivers of living water will brim and spill out of the depths of anyone who believes in me this way, just as the Scripture says.'”  John 7:37-38 MSGPraying that God reveals himself to you today, and that you feel His Continue Reading …

Is Willpower Really Powerful?

Sunday SolitudeAs February comes to a close today, I am wondering how people are doing with their New Year’s Resolutions. At my Women’s Small Group/Bible Study, we joke that our New Year’s Resolution is to not pick blueberries in January. :) I am proud to say that I was able to stick to that one this year! I ate a lot of blueberries from our freezer, but I didn’t pick any new ones.My other resolutions I’m just now getting around to. They are my usual goals--get organized and start Continue Reading …

Winds of Grace

Today's Sunday Solitude is a quote that I really needed to reflect on this week:"Believe God's Word and power more than you believe your own feelings and experiences. Your Rock is Christ, and it isn't that Rock that ebbs and flows--but your sea." ~ Samuel RutherfordAnd the quote used in this card: "The winds of grace are always blowing, but it is ours to set the sails."The stamps used are © Stampin' Up! Winds of Grace and Sanded.I colored the image--created the sunset, sky, and sea with Prisma Continue Reading …

Seasons of Life

Sunday SolitudeI was flipping through my photos on my computer and cannot help but notice how different the seasons look here in Munising, MI.This is City Dock on Lake Superior as it looks right now (taken 3 days ago). To me it looks quiet, cold, and lonely, but also a little bit peaceful. Looking at this photo, it's hard to image how much activity revolves around this place in the summer unless you have been here to witness it.Here is the same dock, just taken from another angle, on the Continue Reading …

What Do You Have to Offer?

This is what I will be praying about in my time of solitude today:Our church is just starting to have the entire service on the big screen (projector) using PowerPoint, worship videos, etc. God has blessed me with the desire and skills to help put this together. And it is so easy to get bogged down with the whole "production" and to lose sight of what's really important. Our church is very small, so we only have one service. Our challenge is to blend contemporary worship with traditional to Continue Reading …

Have You Already Surrendered This New Year?

I started a new (to me) prayer journal for the New Year called "God's Gracious Invitation" (copyright 2006 by Cornerstone Stewardship Ministry), and also started reading "Daily Steps for God Chicks". It is common for the beginning of a study to encourage you to spend some silence listening for God, and these two studies/journals are no different. Sitting here looking at all the falling snow, and realizing that tomorrow is back to reality--a new week full of our normal activities Continue Reading …

The Gift of the Present

Matthew 14:23 (New International Version)23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,Without great solitude no serious work is possible. ~ Pablo PicassoIn solitude we give passionate attention to our lives, to our memories, to the details around us. ~ Virginia WoolfI hope you all found some solitude this past week. I don't think I did, and that must be why I still feel totally drained today. It must be December or Continue Reading …
