Handmade “May Flowers” Saturday’s DT Challenge

D2D BullfrogsFlowers

The Challenge... This week's Saturday Challenge is hosted by Design Team member, Kathy Curry. We all have heard the saying "April showers bring May flowers". I want to see some of those pretty May flowers used on your card or project this week. It's easy to buy all sorts of flowers at the craft store, but using those wouldn't be too challenging, so I've got a twist for you. I would like to see handmade flowers this week. You can make them anyway you like, as long as they are made by you Continue Reading …

Embossing With a Digital Stamp and a Dish Rag

Boy, oh boy, do I have a lot to share with you tonight! I had two hours alone with my Cuttlebug toady and came up with some interesting embossing techniques. There are also a couple of software hints and shortcuts in this post that will speed up your time on the computer, so you can get to crafting your card quickly. These cards are EASY and have so much texture and dimension!I used my digital stamp Continue Reading …

Embossing a Frame

Yesterday's card featured an embossed rectangle in the center of it, and I had a few questions on Crafter's Digital Art Center about how to emboss with Nestabilities.I am using a Cuttlebug, so you will need plates A, two B plates, C, 4-5 pieces of cardstock for a shim, and Spellbinder's Tan Polymer Embossing Mat.You will also need the piece of card stock you want to emboss, a Nestabilities die, and some tape. For my Fall Leaves card, I just embossed a rectangle onto a 4 x 5.25 inch Continue Reading …

Make Your Own Background Paper with Digital Stamps

Here's a beautiful example of using a digi stamp to create a background paper. In this set of images, the .png files have transparent backgrounds (no white box), so you are able to put them close together like Sheila did in this card. The sentiment is also a .png file, so it can be layered using your computer over the images. Then you just print! You can use photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop, or a free, open-source program called Gimp to create this. I made a video tutorial to Continue Reading …

Making Your Own Embossing Glitter, and Ways to Use It

Many times stamp sets come with smaller coordinating stamps that are perfect for creating your own background papers. This "Billy Blasts Off" set by Creations by Louby Loo has a small star that I used in the background of the focus image instead of as a background designer paper. This technique is a fun one, and is known as "Emboss Resist". There are many tutorials on the web showing you how to do this. I discovered it when I first started stamping here: SplitcoastStampers. The Continue Reading …

Folded Paper "Ribbon" and Framed Shadowbox Image

I made this card for the Clearly Inspired Challenge on the Clear Dollar Stamps Blog. Here are a few quick tips:To make the two different shades of background out of one piece of designer paper, I  dry embossed the paper using a my Cuttlebug, and then sanded the top half, and sponged the bottom half with a darker coordinating ink. It's very subtle, but adds a little bit of interest. Then I cut a 1" x 12" strip of DP, inked the edges, dry embossed it, and folded it to resemble Continue Reading …
